What is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is a small metal post made from titanium. It is highly durable, corrosion resistant and well tolerated by the human body.
How Do They Work?
Stage 1: The Surgical Phase
In the first stage, your Dentist will carefully insert a titanium post into your jawbone.

Stage 2: The Healing Phase
Once placed, your implant will begin to integrate with the surrounding bone in your jaw. This process is called osseointegration. During this process, your jaw begins to grow around the implant to securely anchor it in place.

Stage 3: Completion Phase
Once your implant is secure, your dentist can then attach a small connector called an abutment to your implant. This connector is used to attach the implant post to your crown.

What are the Key Benefits?

Losing one or more teeth can significantly affect your oral health and your appearance. Fortunately, with a 98% success rate, Dental Implants provide a safe and permanent solution for tooth loss.

Avoid Progressive Bone Loss

When you're missing one or more teeth, the mass of bone in your jaw can deteriorate by as much as 25% in the first year. Once this bone is lost, it must be artificially recreated using a costly and time consuming process known as bone grafting.

Bone loss occurs over time when one or more missing teeth are left untreated.

Prevent Shifting Teeth

Even though teeth are securely connected to the jawbone, they can still move and change position when one or more teeth are missing. When there are many gaps left by missing teeth, your neighboring teeth can shift significantly affecting your entire bite.

Maintain Your Appearance

Your teeth play an important role in maintaining the appearance and structure of your face. It might be unexpected, but not having teeth can greatly affect how you look. As your jaw bone shrinks over time, the missing bone can make your face appear less healthy and youthful.

Over time, missing teeth can alter your appearance.

Am I Eligible for An Implant?

If you're in good health then you're likely eligible for dental implant treatment. To know for certain, you'll need to schedule a consultation with a dentist.

At the consultation, your dentist will examine your overall oral health and then determine whether there is enough bone in your jaw to support an implant.

If there is not enough bone, your dentist may recommend a treatment known as bone grafting. Bone grafting involves inserting a synthetic "bone-like" material into the jaw. It is used when a patient lacks enough natural bone to support an implant.

FAQs

Yes! In fact, of all the permanent tooth replacement options, Dental Implants offer the best overall value. Here's 5 reason why:

Reason 1: Look good, FEEL healthy!
In addition to helping you look and feel your best, dental implants also provide an effective way to improve your overall oral health.

Reason 2: Prevent Gum Disease
Dental implants are an effective way to remove gaps along your gumline that could lead to periontitis aka gum disease.

Reason 3: Retain Your Facial Structure
Dental implants stimulate bone growth. This is important because over time, missing teeth cause your jaw to lose bone mass. To avoid bone loss and retain your facial structure, dental implants provide the stimulation your jaw needs to keep your cheeks and lips full.

Reason 4: Stability
Unlike dentures, dental implants are securely anchored in place so there’s no risk of an embarassing slippage when talking or eating.

Reason 5: Food & Nutrition
If you love food, dental implants are the best way to conveniently improve your oral health and continue to enjoy the foods that you love.
Reason 1: Success Rate, Value, Efficacy
Dental implants have a 98% success rate. Compared with all other treatment options, dental implants provide the most long term value. They are highly durable, and low maintenance. As well, they are the most effective way for patients with missing teeth to prevent gum disease and the effect of bone loss on facial structure.

Reason 2: Complexity, Experience, Risk
Dental implant surgery is complex. To ensure a successful outcome, your dentist or oral surgeon must develop considerable experience through high-cost training. Because each patient is unique, this experience is required to effectively mitigate risk.
Dental implant costs vary depending on location and each patients individual circumstances. Generally speaking, the final cost of a single-tooth Dental Implant is about $3200 CDN. We let you start the process for just $1199.

To better understand the cost of a Dental Implant in your own specific case, here are a list of costs to consider:

Extraction: If required, the cost of an extraction is between $250 and $500.

Bone Grafting: A bone graft typically costs between $400 and $600, depending on the material used and each patients unique circumstances.

The Implant Post: the cost to purchase and place an implant post is approximately $1500 depending on the patients unique circumstances. The upper end of this price range applies to patients with more complicated circumstances.

Abutment: An abutment will typically cost between $300 and $500 and is a required component to connect the Implant Post to the Crown.

Crown: The cost of a dental crown typically ranges between $1500 and $2000.
To determine whether you are a suitable candidate for dental implants, you'll need to first schedule a consultation. During the consultation, your dentist, periodontist or oral surgeon will assess:

Medical History:
Eligibility for dental implants requires assessing each patients overall health. Patients who have serious medical conditions or who are immune-compromised may not be able to go through with the procedure due to the risk of complications. Additionally, certain medications such as blood thinners may need to be stopped or adjusted prior to implant surgery in order to reduce bleeding during the procedure.

Lifestyle:
A patients lifestyle and habits are another factor that must be considered. Certain lifestyle factors such as smoking must considered as they may affect the healing process and the success of the procedure.

Available Bone Density:
The last step is to determine how much bone density you have using an x-ray and/or CT scan. For patients lacking enough bone density, the scan can be used to determine the extent of bone grafting needed to secure the implant.
